Unfiltered with... Emma

Hi, I’m Emma, and this is a real-life account of my experiences.

First, as a single mother watching her son be pulled into gang life from the age of 14, and also as a first responder to four stabbing victims across two separate incidents, all aged 16 and under.

For years, I lived with the suffocating anxiety many of you will recognise. The jolt of fear that runs through your body at the sound of a car door slamming, raised voices in the street, or another headline about a local stabbing, knowing your son is out there in that world. That mother’s intuition is telling you your baby is in danger, while your nervous system is pushed beyond its limits. I see you.

I will share our raw and honest family experience, but I’m not here just to recount trauma. I’m here to share how I found a way through it. After making the radical decision to pull my son away and start again, I watched him completely turn his life around.

Today, he isn’t just safe. He’s thriving.

This talk is an unfiltered look at the reality of serious youth violence, the devastating impact it has on entire families, and, most importantly, a message of HOPE. It is possible to get our children out and to guide them toward a safer, positive future.
