Felix's Story

Recently our team have been helping mum, Maxine and her son, Felix. Felix is 13 and throughout his life he has witnessed his mum suffer severe domestic abuse.

When Felix's behaviour at school worsened, he was moved to another school as a temporary measure. Unfortunately, an allegation was made about Felix at his new school and his placement was immediately terminated without consultation or reported investigation. Felix was forced to return back to his original school, where he felt unsafe, overwhelmed and like a failure, contributing to a regression in his behaviour.

Felix was placed on an 'Off-Site Direction' - this is an informal agreement between schools to move students temporarily to address behavioural issues. We believe that the necessary protections were not in place for Felix. Without these safeguards, we were not allowed to challenge either school in their actions.

In response to Felix's situation, the PACS team communicated his traumatic experiences to Social Services and the city's Children Services. They have since which agreed that a managed move is not suitable for Felix given his past trauma and attachment issues.

Having encountered several similar cases, we are reaching out to gather further insights from parents who have experienced 'Off-Site Directions' or 'Managed Moves' in their child's educational journey. How did these arrangements impact your child? Were they beneficial, or did they fail to address your child's needs?
