We are extremely proud to share that our National Mental Health Team were announced the winners of the Nursing in Mental Health Award at the 2024 Nursing Times Awards ceremony held in London last night.

Steve Ford, editor of Nursing Times, said: “The Nursing Times Awards are an opportunity each year to celebrate all that is brilliant about nursing and midwifery, showcasing the innovation, energy and dedication of nurses and midwives across the UK.

“Once again, the quantity and standard of entries has been extremely high and to be shortlisted, let alone win a category, is a great achievement that marks out individuals and teams as truly exceptional in their area of work.”

Jon Needham, Director of Safeguarding said, “I am so pleased and proud of the remarkable people that make up the Oasis Mental Health team for achieving this amazing recognition. Not only are they the Mental Health Team of the Year, which is a big enough achievement, but we are the first academy trust to win this award. The work the team does to support the well-being of our most vulnerable children is a natural fit into the delivery of exceptional education – a child who is happy is ready to learn.”

Our National Mental Health Team launched in September 2023. Our trailblazing model has seen them support more than 900 pupils across the country with their mental health. They have worked closely with over 500 parents through our Oasis Encounter Programme and they support our remarkable staff facing wellbeing challenges.

Our Mental Health Lead, Erin Docherty, said, "Last night, we were acknowledged nationally for our very special service. I could not be prouder of the team I serve, their compassion for every member of our communities and their passion to see children and young people step out of places of darkness and into a fullness of life where they can indeed meet their God given potential. This team live out our 9 habits every single day and they are relentless in their sense of perseverance and hope.

“How thankful I am to work for a Trust that truly invests in their pupils holistically, recognising that they are made up of many precious parts and that through our nurture approach and our Oasis Way, allows them to access learning in the midst of significant challenge.”

Our CEO John Barneby shares the following message: “I am immensely proud of our Mental Health Team and delighted to see that their hard work has been recognised in this way.  To have this service in the educational setting is truly special. Our Mental Health Team are reducing the barriers that many pupils meet when needing treatment and intervention for their mental health. They are improving the health inequalities that many already face and most importantly, they are working hand in hand with our colleagues across the country to transform our environments to places that are psychologically safe. This award is an incredible achievement for our remarkable people!”

Please join us in congratulating the team on winning this exceptional award!
